Licensing Policy

Open Access & Reuse Rights

The Journal of Precision Medicine and Health Research (JPMHR) publishes scholarly articles under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0) unless a clearly identified exception applies to specific third-party material.

This licence permits broad lawful reuse while requiring appropriate attribution to the original authors and source. Authors retain copyright in their published work.

CC BY 4.0 Author-Retained Copyright Commercial Reuse Permitted Adaptation Permitted Attribution Required No Additional Permission Required

Default Publishing Licence

JPMHR uses CC BY 4.0 as its standard licence for published scholarly articles.

View default licence details

The Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence allows users to share and adapt licensed material for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided the licence conditions are met.

JPMHR does not normally require users to seek additional permission from the journal or authors for uses already permitted by CC BY 4.0.

Permitted Uses Under CC BY 4.0

Readers and other users may share, reproduce, redistribute, adapt, transform, and build upon JPMHR content licensed under CC BY 4.0.

View permitted uses

Subject to compliance with the licence terms, users may:

  • copy articles in whole or in part;
  • redistribute articles in any medium or format;
  • include material in teaching and educational resources;
  • translate published content;
  • adapt figures or other licensed material;
  • incorporate material into new scholarly or professional works;
  • use content for text and data mining;
  • reuse material in commercial contexts;
  • archive or preserve copies; and
  • build upon the material to create derivative works.

These permissions apply only to material covered by the CC BY 4.0 licence. Separate restrictions may apply to third-party content specifically excluded from that licence.

Attribution Requirements

Reusers must provide appropriate attribution in accordance with CC BY 4.0.

View attribution requirements

Appropriate attribution should normally identify:

  • the original author or authors;
  • the title of the work;
  • the Journal of Precision Medicine and Health Research as the publication source;
  • the DOI or permanent article link where available;
  • the CC BY 4.0 licence; and
  • whether material changes were made.

Attribution should not imply that the original authors, JPMHR, or BMU Ventures endorse the reuse, adaptation, product, organisation, or new work unless such endorsement has been expressly authorised.

Adaptation and Modification

CC BY 4.0 permits adaptation and modification of licensed JPMHR content, provided proper attribution is maintained and material changes are indicated where required.

View adaptation requirements

Adaptations may include:

  • translations;
  • abridgements;
  • educational adaptations;
  • modified or redrawn figures;
  • data visualisations;
  • derivative analyses;
  • multimedia adaptations; and
  • other transformative uses permitted by the licence.

The adapted work should not be presented in a manner that falsely suggests that the original authors approved changes they did not review or endorse.

Material modification should be identified sufficiently clearly to distinguish the adapted content from the original Version of Record.

Commercial Reuse

CC BY 4.0 permits commercial as well as non-commercial reuse of licensed JPMHR material.

View commercial reuse conditions

Commercial reuse does not require additional permission from JPMHR where the proposed use is already permitted by CC BY 4.0 and does not infringe separate third-party rights.

Commercial users remain responsible for:

  • appropriate attribution;
  • identifying the CC BY 4.0 licence;
  • indicating modifications;
  • respecting third-party material excluded from the licence;
  • not implying endorsement; and
  • complying with other applicable legal obligations.

Rights Granted to JPMHR

Authors grant JPMHR non-exclusive publishing and dissemination rights necessary to maintain the published Version of Record and its scholarly metadata.

View journal publication rights

These non-exclusive rights may include the ability to:

  • publish and host the article;
  • produce and distribute full-text formats;
  • maintain the Version of Record;
  • register and update DOI metadata;
  • distribute bibliographic metadata;
  • submit or expose metadata to discovery and indexing services;
  • deposit material with verified preservation services;
  • implement corrections, retractions, and other scholarly-record notices; and
  • maintain lawful archival and preservation copies.

These rights are non-exclusive and do not prevent authors from exercising their own copyright or the reuse rights granted under CC BY 4.0.

Third-Party Material

Third-party material is covered by CC BY 4.0 only where the rights holder has authorised its inclusion under compatible terms.

View third-party material requirements

Authors are responsible for identifying and obtaining appropriate permission for third-party material where reuse is not otherwise legally permitted.

Third-party material may include:

  • photographs;
  • figures;
  • tables;
  • maps;
  • questionnaires;
  • measurement instruments;
  • scales;
  • copyrighted diagrams;
  • substantial quotations; or
  • other protected content.

If such material is not covered by the article's CC BY 4.0 licence, the published work should contain a clear credit line or rights statement indicating the applicable restriction.

Users seeking to reuse material excluded from CC BY 4.0 may need permission directly from the relevant rights holder.

Article-Level Licence Display

JPMHR aims to display licensing information clearly and consistently at article level so that readers and downstream services can identify reuse rights without ambiguity.

View article-level licence information

Licence information should be available, where technically applicable, through:

  • the article landing page;
  • the published PDF or other full-text format;
  • article metadata;
  • DOI metadata; and
  • other scholarly metadata distributed by the journal.

The journal seeks consistency between its public licence statement, article-level notices, publication files, and metadata records.

Self-Archiving and Sharing

JPMHR permits authors to share and archive manuscript versions in accordance with its open-access and self-archiving policies.

View self-archiving rights

Subject to the detailed Self-Archiving Policy, authors may deposit:

  • the submitted version or preprint;
  • the accepted manuscript; and
  • the published Version of Record.

JPMHR does not impose a routine embargo on author self-archiving.

Once the final publication is available, authors are encouraged to provide the DOI or permanent JPMHR article link so that readers can locate and cite the Version of Record.

Funder and Institutional Requirements

CC BY 4.0 and immediate open access are intended to support broad compatibility with funder and institutional open-access requirements.

View funder and institutional considerations

Authors remain responsible for checking requirements imposed by their:

  • research funders;
  • employers;
  • universities;
  • institutional repositories;
  • national research policies; or
  • other contractual arrangements.

Such requirements may concern:

  • specific licence wording;
  • repository deposit;
  • rights retention;
  • acknowledgements;
  • metadata;
  • data-sharing obligations; or
  • reporting to funding bodies.

Where a funder condition is compatible with JPMHR's publishing framework, authors may satisfy it through the appropriate repository, acknowledgement, licence, or metadata mechanism.

No Implied Endorsement

Reuse of JPMHR content under CC BY 4.0 does not imply endorsement by the original authors, JPMHR, or BMU Ventures.

View endorsement limitations

A reuser must not represent or imply that:

  • the original authors approve an adaptation;
  • JPMHR endorses a product or service;
  • BMU Ventures endorses a commercial organisation;
  • the journal validates claims made in a derivative work; or
  • an adapted version is the original Version of Record.

Accurate attribution is required, but attribution must not be converted into a misleading claim of endorsement.

Version of Record and Adapted Copies

The formally published JPMHR article remains the Version of Record even when others lawfully redistribute or adapt material under CC BY 4.0.

View Version-of-Record principles

Copies or adaptations created by third parties must not be represented as if they were revised official versions issued by JPMHR.

Where practicable, redistributed or adapted versions should retain a citation or permanent link to the original JPMHR publication.

If the original article is later corrected, retracted, or otherwise subject to a formal scholarly-record notice, third-party reusers are encouraged to ensure that redistributed versions do not misleadingly conceal the updated status of the source publication.

Relationship with the Open Access Policy

This Licensing Policy defines reuse permissions, while the Open Access Policy defines how published JPMHR content is made available to readers.

View how the policies work together

JPMHR's rights framework consists of three complementary principles:

  • Open Access: readers receive immediate free access to published scholarly content;
  • Licensing: CC BY 4.0 defines broad public reuse permissions; and
  • Copyright: authors retain ownership of their work.

The authoritative legal and explanatory information for CC BY 4.0 is maintained by Creative Commons.
